Witnessing Angola: A Glimpse into the Crucible of Photojournalism

Step into the heart of Angola, a land engulfed in the tumultuous currents of Africa’s most treacherous landscapes. For five intense years, I immersed myself in the crucible of photojournalism, assuming the weighty responsibility of establishing and coordinating a photographic department for three influential newspapers and two distinctive renowned magazines.

In this perilous realm, where danger lurked at every turn, I navigated the intricate dance between limited resources and the unwavering pursuit of truth. With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I fearlessly delved into the depths of sensitive subjects and undertook investigative reportage, often against formidable odds. Amidst the backdrop of societal violence, rampant famine, entrenched poverty, and wrenching displacement, I strived to capture the stark realities of a nation in flux. A country willing to change towards development and reach international markets, ten years after its long and brutal civil war.

Yet, the my challenges extended far beyond the realm of human strife. From grappling with the constant threat of malaria, dengue, marburg, yellow fever, and typhoid fever to navigating the hazardous terrain marred by landmines, my journey was fraught with both physical and emotional perils.

Despite the daunting obstacles, I remained steadfast, propelled by a fervent dedication to uncover the untold stories and shed light on the resilience of the human spirit. Specially to my dear colleges that still endure their daily life as journalists and citizens.

Join me on this gripping expedition, where each image serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of a photojournalist amidst chaos, adversity and smashing wonders of nature with some wonderful brightness of the human heart.
